Dave Matthews Band - 25 Years of Music

Media executive Richard Graziano is based in New York City, where he serves as president and general manager of WPIX-TV and senior vice president of Tribune Broadcasting. When he’s not working, Richard Graziano enjoys attending concerts and has seen U2 and the Dave Matthews Band more than 10 times each.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Dave Matthews Band, one of the world’s most popular live acts. The band started in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 1991 when Dave Matthews decided to record some of his songs on tape and asked local jazz musicians to join him: drummer Carter Beauford, saxophonist LeRoi Moore, and bassist Stefan Lessard. All three would become permanent members of the band.

The musicians played their first official gig as the Dave Matthews Band on May 11, 1991, at a private rooftop party on South Street in downtown Charlottesville and soon began booking regular gigs at two local clubs, Trax Nightclub and Eastern Standard. Since then, the band has toured extensively and exhaustively, enjoying a large and loyal fan base. Members of the Dave Matthews Band are currently touring in support of their 25th anniversary, though they plan to take a hiatus in 2017.
